updates

August 24th, 2008 by ScottyP

It’s been a year since my last post, and over 2 years since I started this site. In the process, I have realized that I do not enjoy writing so much, but I do enjoy making videos, and I have reached the greatest audience online (greater than I could have ever imagined!) with my youtube videos. I will update this site with any new youtube reviews I do (and I have a couple almost ready to upload), but I probably won’t be writing much from now on. Video is the future!

January 5th, 2007 by ScottyP

Considering the amount of feedback I get from people who are new to the music producing world, I thought it would be helpful to share some basic tips I have picked up over the years. Most of these tips have helped me a great deal. In this post I will explore the benefits of having a good pair of headphones, how to be patient when learning music, why you should be adventurous, why you shouldn’t just follow trends, and the principal of K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, stupid!) Read the rest of this entry »

A radical new way to make money from your music

August 1st, 2006 by ScottyP

Face it people, the music industry is in for some big changes. The major labels have been sluggish to adapt to the power of the internet, while consumers have been quick to adapt to these new technologies. Digital distribution can completely cut out the label, the distributor, and the retail chain. The mass produced compact disk is quickly becoming a relic from another time. While the major labels are still a powerful force to be reckoned with, there are now ways to chip away at the music hegemony. Read the rest of this entry »

Respect Your Computer PART 2: Respect Your Laptop

July 13th, 2006 by ScottyP

Laptops can be empowering tools for art creation. It is great to be able to set up shop wherever you want and begin creating music. In fact, about 10% of the writing I do for this site is done with a laptop in various coffee shops. Laptops have become very powerful in the last few years and there are many people who use them as their primary system (myself included). However there are some considerations that need to be taken when purchasing and using these portable wonders. Read the rest of this entry »

Respect Your Computer PART 1: Hard Disks

July 9th, 2006 by ScottyP

In this brief article I’m going to provide some tips on dealing with your audio project files. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way by losing files due to bad file management and a bad backup philosophy. Many people overlook the fact that hard disks are extremely prone to failure, don’t backup their work, and lose many hours, days, or even years of work when their hard disk crashes. Others hamper their productivity due to hard disk neglect. Follow these tips and your life will be a bit easier when dealing with the most fault-prone part of a computer. While I am focussing on those of you who do audio/visual work in this article, these tips can be useful for anyone. Read the rest of this entry »
